Microlaser Peel

Dallas Microlaser Peel Specialists -- Genecov Plastic Surgery Group

Serving Microlaser Peel Patients in Dallas, Richardson and Carrollton, TX

What is a Microlaser Peel?

Microlaser peels are a great option for a variety of skin conditions, including sun spots and fine wrinkles. It is a form of skin resurfacing in which an erbium laser is used to remove dead skin cells. The laser helps bring a new, healthy layer of skin to the surface, eliminating wrinkles and other signs of aging.

In Texas, microlaser peels can be performed by an aesthetician. However, in our practice, they are always performed by a knowledgeable physician, meaning you get the best possible care.

If you're a resident of Dallas, Richardson or Carrollton and you're interested in learning more about microlaser peels, look no further than Genecov Plastic Surgery Group. Our physicians are experienced in recommending the best procedures for your skin type. We're happy to answer any questions you may have, including average microlaser peel costs.

How is a Microlaser Peel Performed?

The idea of "peeling" off layers of skin sounds painful, but most patients are surprised at how little discomfort they experience. Our microlaser peel patients in Dallas, Richardson, Carrollton and the surrounding areas report that the procedure feels similar to scrubbing your skin with a washcloth.

To ensure that you do not feel any discomfort, a topical anesthetic cream is applied an hour prior to your peel. For those who are very sensitive, nerve injection blocks can be used. Then, your eyes are shielded and your face is treated. Finally, your skin is cleaned and a soothing balm is applied. The entire procedure lasts about half an hour.

If you would prefer, we can provide you with sedation during your peel. However, this is unnecessary for most patients. It's helpful to look at microlaser peel before and after photos to assess if this treatment is right for you.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Microlaser Peel?

While there are no restrictions for microlaser peels, we do recommend that your skin be in generally good condition. It's also important that you do not have any injuries or burns on your skin prior to the procedure. Microlaser peels are generally performed on patients over 35, but younger patients will also benefit from this procedure. At any age, caring for your skin correctly is vital to aging well.

What Kind of Post-Operative Microlaser Peel Care Can I Expect?

Many of the older peel methods involved a significant amount of redness and swelling. However, the microlaser peel technique will leave your skin shiny, and you will notice only a little redness. You will apply a soothing lotion for four days after the procedure to help nourish your skin. During this time, you should only use a very gentle cleanser. A diluted vinegar wash four to five times per day is also key to a quick recovery.

Avoid using any harsh products, excessive sun exposure and exposure to chlorinated water. Men should not shave, as this will irritate your skin. The procedure is performed as outpatient surgery. If you had sedation, you will require a ride home. You may also require assistance for the first few days post-op, especially if there are young children in your home.

Your skin will start to peel in three to four days. Once your skin stops peeling, generally after another two days, you may return to your normal skin care routine.

You may wish to take up to a week off work, to avoid co-workers noticing your skin peeling. However, there are no restrictions on activity during this time. After a week, your skin may still be slightly pink, but otherwise back to normal.

After the procedure and the peeling is complete, sun protection is essential. We recommend an SPF of 35 or greater. Our office will be happy to help you with our in-house product selection.

Microlaser peels are generally repeated every six months to help your skin regenerate smooth, healthy cells, and give your face a more youthful appearance.
