Chin Implants in Dallas, TX
What is a Chin Implant?
Chin augmentation, or mentoplasty, is an available option for patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their naturally weak chin. Though less common than rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), chin implants are nonetheless popular for achieving major changes in facial structure.

If so, look no further than Genecov Plastic Surgery Group. Chin augmentation is a complex procedure that requires a high level of skill and patience. Chin implants are often completed at the same time as other facial surgery, so you can recover from all procedures simultaneously. How is Chin Augmentation Performed?
First, you will discuss with your doctor specifically what shape you are trying to achieve. Your surgeon will work with you to determine the best chin implant shape and size to fit naturally with your facial structure.
We perform our chin implants under general anesthetic. An incision is made inside the mouth or under the chin. Inserting the chin implants through the mouth results in no visible scarring.
The implants may be made of either hard implantable material such as silicone or Medpore, or demineralized bone. During your surgery, the surgeon may shape the implant so that it fits solidly against your existing bone. The implant is then inserted through the mouth or through an incision below the chin, and adjusted to the correct position. The surrounding tissue is stitched closed to hold the chin implant in place.
The mentoplasty procedure itself takes approximately an hour and a half.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Chin Implant?
Chin implants can be performed on almost any patient. We find that, in Dallas, chin augmentation is most frequently done to enhance an underdeveloped jaw. This is also the most common reason among our Southlake and Plano chin augmentation patients. However, you should carefully consider whether these types of implants will achieve the desired results. When considering chin implants, be sure to discuss your exact needs with your physician, so that he may guide you in choosing the best procedures.
These procedures are not generally performed until the patient has reached adulthood, to ensure that the existing facial structure is fully formed and will not continue to grow or change.
What Kind of Post-Operative Chin Augmentation Care Can I Expect?
Chin augmentation involves very little bruising or swelling. You will likely need to take only two or three days off of work, and will be feeling back to normal within a week. It may take up to six weeks until your implant site is completely healed and final results are visible.
Patients should avoid strenuous physical activity for about a month after their procedure. As with any implant, patients will want to avoid trauma to the chin implant area, as this may damage the implants themselves.
What are the Typical Results of a Chin Implant?
Our chin augmentation patients in Dallas, Southlake and Plano and the surrounding areas report an increase in self confidence with their stronger, more balanced chins. Chin implants can achieve very drastic changes in physical appearance. Not only can they be used for simply cosmetic reasons, but they can also correct lifelong disfigurements.
